A computer game was developed at the University of Stavanger, Norway to help nursing students having difficulty passing exams on drug calculation.

NetOps, the University’s unit for web-based studies is testing a computer game to aid in learning.

"Often termed “serious gaming”, the idea is to make learning easier and more fun by using methodology from computer games. Project leader Petter Mordt points out that there are many ways of learning."

Free and Open Source Software in Health was promoted during the “1st Interdisciplinary Alumni Conference in Southeast Asia, Regional Integration in Southeast Asia: Leadership Challenges and Network Building” (http://www.gc21.de/alumni-hanoi/) held from June 30 to July 2, 2010 in Hanoi, Vietnam wherein PANACeA members Alex Gavino, Dong Calmada, Alvin Marcelo (virtual), Ariel Betan and Soegijardjo Soegijoko participated, facilitated and acted as resource persons during the workshop on “Open Source in Healthcare.”

Free and Open Source in Healthcare is the main theme of the current InWent Alumni Newsletter (http://www.inwent.org/alumni) where the portal (http://foss-for-health.org/) and 2 PANACeA members Alvin Marcelo and Ariel Betan are currently featured in their articles. PANACeA was mentioned in the article on Ariel Betan.

Carlo Daffara (http://carlodaffara.conecta.it/) the author of FLOSSMETRICS/OpenTTT which was adopted by the International Open Source Network ASEAN+3 and InWEnt Capacity Building International of Germany in their fosstoolkit project (includes a section on FOSS in healthcare) has come up with a Linux desktop named EveryDesk!

EveryDesk! allows for extensive customization and adaptation and is designed for healthcare.

While your Linux system might not be affected by viruses, there might be some lying dormant in your system. Like when you copied or downloaded files with viruses from another system and then pass the file to another computer whose system (e.g. Microsoft Windows) is vulnerable to viruses. Or if you maintain dual or multiple partitions (e.g. Linux and MS Windows).

Be responsible. Don't be a carrier.

Coming from the widely successful first (April 8) and second (May 21) Seminars on Health Informatics, the UP Manila National Telehealth Center is inviting more health and IT professionals and students to participate in the third offering at the UP College of Dentistry Auditorium on June 26th, 2010.

This third seminar aims to offer the same content as the first but with additional talks by professionals working in health IT. It also promises to provide participants with concrete action items that they can pursue to further sharpen their knowledge and skills in health informatics.

A relatively new concept that is compatible and works closely with Open Source and Open Access.

The cloud-friendly, web app-centric Linux distro is now available.

Another day, another Linux distro. Peppermint OS 1.0 uses Mozilla Labs' Prism technology to fully integrate with Cloud and web-based applications such as Hulu and Gmail. The OS is built on Linux Kernel 2.6.32, Xorg 7.5 GUI and Openbox 3.4.10 for window management.

Peppermint 1.0 uses Mozilla Labs' Prism to create Web apps that run as single site browser windows (SSBs).Custom front end code integrates the SSBs into the desktop environment.
